POLSON - Columbia Falls finished third in both the girls and boys standings Saturday at the Polson Invitational cross country outing.

Polson won the girls title with 35 points. Thompson Falls was second, 59, and Columbia Falls next, 76.

Thompson Falls, 41, edged Polson, 49, for the top spot in boys action. Columball Falls was close behind, 51.

"Overall, pleasantly surprised," said Columbia Falls coach Steve Gasche for the girls. "I was real excited to see Addie (Houle) break into the top 10 today. For the sixth consecutive race, she's lowered her time. She's having pretty much a perfect season."

Houlie finished 10th with a time of 22:17.

Alex Noble of Polson posted the top time, 20:11.

Nikki Elek was the No. 2 finisher for the Wildkats, 13th in 23:06.

Gasche said all his JV runners turned in personal records. Dana Gross, a senior who has competed four years, turned in a lifetime best time of 26:13.

Christal Forke, a freshman, broke 30 minutes with her time of 29:46. Danielle Dorman, a sophomore, had a personal record time of 30:39.

Brian Marseal and Dalvin Averill paced the Columbia Falls boys, placing fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 17:14 and 17:17.

Tripp Gimball was 12th, 18:15.

Logan Torgison of Polson posted the top time, 16:17.

"I have to congratulate our top three (boys)," said Gasche.

"Marseal ran a gutsy race along with Averill. They ran side-by-side. That's a season best for Averill.

"Tripp Gimball, a freshman, is starting to assert himself as one of our top scoring runners."

Gasche said Jaffe Wilde, 26th overall, had a lifetime best time of 19:13.

Eureka's Mandi Truman placed eighth, 22:06, and Bigfork's Wes Hill 10th, 18:04.
