Lillian Helene Quande, 90

Lillian Helene Quande passed away Oct. 6, 2005, at the Village Health Care Center.

She was born in Britton, S.D., in 1915. Her family came from Norway in 1899. Her mother, Theora Haug was born in Thronjheim, Norway, and her father, John Grimsrud was born in Oslo, Norway. Lillian had 11 siblings, Otto, Albert, Marvend, Gladys, Celia, Lloyd, Thelmer, Alma, Cassie, Clara, and her twin, Marian. Lillian taught school in Britton, before moving to Burbank, Calif.

She married Harold Peter Quande in 1932. They shared 56 years together. They lived most of their lives in Kalispell, but during World War II lived in Pensacola, Fla. and St. Louis. Fortunately, they spent a few years in retirement traveling and fishing in Alaska. Harold caught a few, but she caught a few whoppers as well. They always visited their niece and her husband, George and Theora Mumm while they were there.

Lil was a Scandinavian cook, and could make wild meat taste gourmet. She was an expert at making krumkake and lefse. She also enjoyed horseback riding, hiking, gardening, camping, huckleberry picking, canning, and singing in the choir.

She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Kalispell, and was very active in Ladies Aid. For years she substitute taught, and worked at Kalispell General Hospital, as well as the Kalispell Mercantile.

Lillian is survived by her sons, Peter and Bruce Quande, and daughter-in-law Susan of Missoula; granddaughter, Kirsten and husband, Christopher Cherubini, of Missoula; twin sister, Marian of Sisseton, S.D., sister, Gladys Wilson of California; sister-in-law, Helen Kreiser of Fergus Falls, Minn.; and niece, Theora and her husband, George Mumm, of Kalispell. There are numerous nieces and nephews in the Midwest.

A ceremony will be performed 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery in Kalispell.

The family requests donations to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Kalispell, or the donor's choice.
