Welder, Andrews lead FHS runners

It was a good way to end what has already been an outstanding cross country season for the Flathead boys and girls.

The Flathead boys put nine in the top 10 slots and the FHS girls had eight during a non-scoring B Meet Friday afternoon at Kidsport.

Elliot Welder, like he has all season, paced the FHS boys with a time of 16:04. Seth Grossman followed, 16:40, with John Fairweather third, 16:46.

Also finishing under 17 minutes were Justin Barth, 16:48, Seth Svennungsen, 16:52, and Carl Nystuen, 16:57.

Elysia Andrews again led the FHS girls, timed in 19:32. Tera Klein was second, 19:53, and Shannon Ross third, 20:03.

Also breaking 21 minutes for the Bravettes were Riata Booky, 20:06, Liz Myers, 20:34, and Heidi Windauer, 20:44.

"Time-wise, not much better than before, but after four real tough meets, we weren't going to push it too hard," said FHS coach Paul Jorgensen.

"The girls keep improving; the boys ran a comfortable race."

Up next is the all-class state meet next Saturday at Missoula. The Braves and Bravettes will be heavy favorites heading into that competition.

"We're not too overconfident," said Jorgensen.

"We don't take anything for granted."
