GREAT FALLS - Flathead rebounded from a poor opening-day showing at the Great Falls Invitational volleyball tournament to claim the consolation title on Saturday.

The Bravettes downed Helena High 25-14, 25-12 in the consolation final.

Earlier, the Bravettes dispensed with Missoula Sentinel, 25-22, 15-25, 15-5, and Lewistown, 25-21, 21-15.

"We made some adjustments today and it worked well," said FHS coach Christy Harkins.

"They set a goal to be first place out of the consolation bracket today and they achieved that."

On Friday, the Bravettes posted a 5-9 mark in pool play, which was good for sixth place out of eight teams.

Flathead, 4-2 on the season, hosts Helena Capital on Friday.

Bigfork 3, Frenchtown 0

FRENCHTOWN - Bigfork evened its volleyball season record at 1-1 overall Saturday by defeating Frenchtown 25-15, 25-19, 25-20 in nonconference play.

Mary Hall led the way for the Valkyries with seven kills, 16 digs and three aces.

"We played a lot more composed as a team with a lot of people contributing," said Bigfork coach Yvonne Peck.

"Our transitions were much smoother tonight. We passed better, our serve receive (was much improved) and that helped us mount an offense."

Bigfork hosts Whitefish on Thursday.

EUREKA - Amy Roberts had 15 kills, nine aces and a block as Eureka cruised past Plains in three games Saturday night, 25-19, 25-6, 25-15.

Sarah Flanary added 14 kills and eight digs and setter Ali Zauner recorded 27 assists for the Lions (5-0 overall, 4-0 conference).

"Plains is much improved and there was some pretty good hustle by both teams," Eureka coach Rhonda Hammond said.

The Lions host Arlee next Saturday.

POLSON - Libby was forced to go the distance with Polson in pulling out a 25-19, 19-25, 20-25, 25-11, 15-11 Class A volleyball victory Saturday night.

Sam Schultz had 13 kills and 11 digs for Libby.

Janelle Lundeen finished with eight kills and 16 digs for Polson.

"Libby is a quick team and aggressive," said Polson coach Deanna McElwee.

"We had our highs and lows. We just need to work hard at adjusting to things on the court."

Polson, 1-1 in league and 2-1 overall, plays at Stevensville on Thursday.

Libby, 1-0 in league, visits Columbia Falls on Friday.

RONAN - Whitefish made quick work of Ronan Saturday, defeating the Maidens 25-2, 25-9, 25-14 in a Class A volleyball matchup.

Whitefish, 1-0, was led by Ashley Ferda in kills, 11, and Tracy Schwada in blocks, four.

"We were able to move some different kids in and play different spots," said WHS coach Jackie Fuller.

"They were able to flow pretty well."
