The Flathead County commissioners on Wednesday approved a $58.3 million budget for fiscal year 2005-06, together with a property tax levy of 132.571 mills.

The levy is down slightly from what was initially proposed a few weeks ago.

It's up about 4 mills, or 3.26 percent, from last year.

The increase will cost property owners roughly $9 per year per $100,000 in home market value.

Property taxes make up almost 40 percent of the county's total budget. Other revenue sources include fees for service, fines, grants, state and federal payments, and service contracts.

The total budget is up about $2.9 million, or 6.3 percent, from last year. It includes $4.3 million in capital outlays, of which $3.3 million is for the county landfill.
