Season point titles on the line at raceway

The 15th season of auto racing at Montana Raceway Park winds up tonight with six classes in action and points races to be decided in a couple of them.

On the quarter-mile oval for the 2005 finale will be the Flathead Legends, Limited Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, Compacts, Bombers and Bandoleros. Each class will have a main event that will vary between 25-30 laps.

This marks the 21st race of the season and there have been just three rainouts. Action officially got under way on May 14.

Last week the season championship in the Super Late Model Division was settled with Micah Sampson of Kalispell claiming the season points title, 264, thanks to his victory in the 100-lap main event.

Sampson was five points behind Cory Wolfe of Pablo, who finished sixth in the main, when the night started.

Zack Havens and Randy Vickhammer, both of Kalispell, currently share the top spot in the Bombers Division with 503 points apiece. Zach Mongan of Kalispell is third with 479.

The Compacts Division is also extremely tight at the top with Gene Streitz of Polson the leader with 569 points. Tim Davis of Marion is second with 554.

Dirk Lybeck of Kalispell is sitting first in the Limited Sportsman Division with 545 points. Jason Robinson of Kalispell is second, 519, with Sampson and Wolfe tied for third with 488 each.

In the Flathead Legends Division, Alex Lessor of Kalispell has a big lead, 718 points, over second place sitter Jake Grosswiler of Kalispell, 641.

Jed Shue of Kalispell leads the Hobby Stocks Division, 380 points, with Dan Lewis of Columbia Falls holding down second place with a 352 total.

And in the Bandoleros, John Hillicker of Sheridan is currently first, 382,

Trevor Delay, Hungry Horse, second, 344, and Wrango West, Kalispell, third, 340.

Gates open tonight at 5:30 p.m. with time trials at 6 and racing at 7.

Admision is $8.50 for adults; $6.50 for students, $4.50 for youngsters ages 7-11 and 6-and- under are admitted free.

A family pass - two adults and three kids - is $23.50.

The awards banquet is scheduled for Oct. 15 at WestCoast Kalispell Center Hotel.
