Douglas G. 'Doug' Peterson, 83

Douglas G. "Doug" Peterson, 83, passed away Sept. 24, 2005, at Brendan House.

Doug was born Nov. 11, 1921, to Peter and Amanda Peterson, in Somers. He spent his early years swimming, fishing and attending the Somers school. He attended Flathead County High School.

In 1942, he entered the U.S. Army, was trained as a medic, and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to Somers and worked for the Somers Lumber Company.

On March 15, 1952, he married Wilma Swenson. Throughout these years, he worked for various lumber companies in the Flathead Valley.

Doug is survived by his son, Dwight Shurtleff, and wife, Kathy, granddaughter, Andrea, and her husband, Mark Bell, all of Kalispell. He is also survived by his special nephew, Jim, and his wife, Ruth Hellen, of Somers; his sister Evaline Connolly of Billings; plus many nieces and nephews.

Doug was preceded in death by parents; his wife, Wilma; son, Stephen Holmes; sister, Ruth Hellen; and brother, Edgar Peterson.

Graveside urn burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Tim Bartholomew officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the United Veterans of the Flathead Valley.
