John Louis Hoffman, 81

John Louis Hoffman, 81, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, "arrived in Heaven" on Sept. 26, 2005, from his home in Yuma, Ariz.

A well known accomplished equestrian, Mr. Hoffman was the grand marshal at numerous parades, including several Tournament of Roses parades.

A 32nd degree mason in the Shriners, he was a reserve police officer and member of the mounted police for the Chula Vista, Calif., Police Department for 17 years.

Mr. Hoffman served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and was a founder and past president of the Starlight Association in Chula Vista.

A resident of both Yuma and Kalispell, Mr. Hoffman was a previous longtime resident of Lakeside, Calif., and was the original owner of Apollo Oil.

He shared 60 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Evelyn, who survives him. Surviving daughters are Phyllis Barman of Lakeside, Calif., and Aileen DeRose of Phoenix. Grandchildren include Robert Barman III, Charlene and John Theakston, Randi Roush and John Roush. Mr. Hoffman is also survived by his brother, James Hoffman, of York, S.C.; two sisters, Edith and Ruth; and many wonderful friends.

There will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's name to Shriner's Hospital, 3160 Geneva St., Los Angeles, CA 90020.
