Polson boys knock off Corvallis

Girls win over Corvallis

POLSON - It turned out to be a historic day of sorts for the Polson boys tennis squad.

The Pirates defeated Corvallis 5-2 Saturday afternoon, handing the Blue Devils their first dual loss in over two years.

Polson's boys finished the day with a sweep by downing Hamilton by the same score, 5-2.

The Polson girls were equally as successful, stopping Hamilton 7-0 and Corvallis, also 4-3.

"We're a little better than expected right now," said Polson coach Bob Hislop of his boys.

"I don't know if we're hot early, or what."

Hislop said Andy Dykstra "is playing very well."

Dykstra beat Corvallis' Colin Fehr in No. 1 singles play, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Fehr finished third at state a year ago.

In girls action, Hislop said the team turned in a strong effort against Hamilton, but struggled a little bit against Corvallis.

Addie Krantz and Maddie Grebetz gave Polson the win over Corvallis by virtue of their No. 3 doubles victory. They beat Kylee Cheeney and Callie Ward, 8-2.
