John V. Ottenbreit, 86, passed away April 9, 2006, at home with his loving family at his side.

His parents, Mathias and Barbara Ottenbreit; sisters, Elizabeth Herman, Anne Larsen and Carolin Ottenbreit; and brothers, Math, George and Frank all preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; sons, Donald and Mary of Caldwell, Idaho, and Loren and Chris of Cheney, Wash.; granddaughters, Kim and Jason Reser of Spokane, and Geri and Tom Morten of Caldwell, Idaho; and grandson, Jon and Tami Ottenbreit of Kennewick, Wash.; great-grandchildren, Johnny and Kristen Reser and Cassie, Jordy and Jenna Morten. He is also survived by his brother, Floyd and Miriam of Carrollton, Texas.

John served in the Army during World War II in Canada, the European theater and Okinawa.

After his discharge from the Army, he was a heavy machinery mechanic for Modern Equipment in Kalispell.

Upon retiring, John and Sylvia spent many winters in Mesa, Ariz., enjoying the warm weather. One of his favorite pastimes was woodcarving and sharing his art with his family and friends. Besides making Native American and Abe Lincoln wall plaques, he also carved canes from old diamond willow fence posts that he collected from family property in Eastern Montana. The joy of his life was his family and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, Spokane.
