Hageness hurls perfect game

LIBBY - Brooke Hageness pitched a perfect game and drove in three runs with a double and a triple as Libby blanked Ronan 10-0 in the first game of a softball doubleheader on Saturday.

Libby also won the second game, 21-2.

Hageness fanned five Ronan batters in improved her mound record to 6-1 on the season.

She faced two batters in the first inning that went to a full count, but both Ronan hitters flied out.

Sarah Lawrence, in the top of the fifth inning, made a shoe-string catch in center to rob a Ronan hitter of an extra-base hit.

"She pitched real well," said Libby coach Dean Thompson.

"Had good control, threw a lot of good pitches. And the defense played well behind her."

In addition to Lawrence, Shelby Barton at short turned in another solid effort at her spot.

"Katie Dedrick, 2-for-3, played an outstanding game," said Thompson.

"Her bat is coming around."

Dedrick doubled in the opener.

In the second game, Libby scored 10 runs in the first inning to put the game away early.

Ronan walked six Libby hitters in that inning and hit two batters. The Loggers also had four hits.

Lacie Dedrick, with the bases loaded in the third inning, tripled with one out to right to drive in three runs. She finished with six for the game.

Sam Schultz, 2-for-3, had five RBIs and also tripled in the contest.

Libby, 8-1 in league play and overall, plays in the Frenchtown Invitational Friday and Saturday.
