Ace for Crawford at Meadow Lake

Gail Crawford of Calgary, Alberta, used a 7-iron to ace the 125-yard fifth hole at Meadow Lake Resort on Monday.

Ritzman Junior Golf tourney set

The Alice Ritzman Junior Golf fundraiser and tournament is scheduled for this weekend at Buffalo Hill Golf Club.

The event will feature a live auction on Saturday at the golf course starting at 7 p.m. Up for bids will be an autographed picture of Jack Nicklaus at St. Andrews and a British pound with Nicklaus image and autograph on the note, autographed caps by Nicklaus and Greg

Norman, an autographed baseball by St. Louis Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols, a Pujols autographed Sports Illustrated cover framed and featuring the Cardinals slugger, plus various art works by local artists.

Individuals can bid on the above items until midnight on Friday by e-mailing steved@golfbuffalohill.com or at the live auction on Saturday.

The golf tournament is scheduled for Sunday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.. The entry fee is $200 per team and includes green fees and lunch. There will be several hole prizes.

The fundraiser and tournament raise money for the junior golf program.

Ylinen s West U.S.A. teams takes 2nd

Kalispell s Kristina Ylinen s volleyball team did extremely well at the Down Under Games in Australia.

The former Flathead High School volleyball player and future Southern Oregon University volleyball player helped lead her West U.S.A. team to a second-place finish out of 24 teams on the Gold Coast of Australia.

Her teammates were players from Montana, Wyoming and Colorado.

The Montana/Wyoming/Colorado team, named West USA, went into the championship match undefeated. After going 5-0 in pool play, West USA defeated New Mexico 2-1 in the semifinals, before falling to Missouri 2-1 in the championship.

West U.S.A. team members included Krista Fjare from Absarokee, Katlyn Mitchel from Great Falls High, Ashlee Durfey of Gardiner, Marci Christensen from Gillete, Wyoming, Katie Armstrong from Eaton, Colorado and Elizabeth Carian from Boulder, Colorado. The team was coached by John Cupit of Bozeman.

Big Mountain Trail Run Aug. 26

The Big Mountain Trail Run will be held on Saturday, Aug. 26 at 9 a.m. at Big Mountain. Registration is from 8-8:45 a.m. outside the Hell Roaring Chalet. Cost is $5 for students, $10 for adults or $20 for a family. All proceeds benefit the Glacier Nordic Ski Team. For more information contact Debbie at 862-2113.
