Roehl going for second WCCBL chipper

Former Kalispell Laker fresh off 2006 NAIA World Series title

WENATCHEE, Wash. Former Kalispell Lakers American Legion baseball player Jesse Roehl is trying to help lead his team to back-to-back West Coast Collegiate Baseball League championships.

Roehl is the starting center fielder for the Wenatchee Applesox. The Applesox are in the midst of playing the Spokane Riverhawks in a best-of-three championship series.

Both teams are 28-15 after the Applesox won the first game Tuesday night, 4-3. The second game of the series is Thursday night in Spokane with a third game, if necessary, in Spokane Friday night.

Roehl was instrumental as a junior for Lewis-Clark State in helping win the 2006 NAIA World Series this spring. He helped the Applesox to last season s WCCBL championship over the Aloha Knights.

Roehl went 1-for-4 with an RBI and made two crucial defensive plays in center field in Tuesday s victory.

Roehl finished the WCCBL regular season 25th in the league in batting with a .272 average. He was tied for fifth in the league with 26 runs scored and tied for fourth in doubles with 10. He also had two home runs and walked 23 times, which tied him for sixth in the WCCBL. He led the league with 13 hit by pitches and gathered 20 RBIs. He was 8-for-9 in stealing bases.

For L-C State, the 6-foot-2, 205-pounder started in center field and batted .244 (31-for-127) on the season. He had six doubles, one triple and three home runs with 19 RBIs. He had a fielding percentage of .984. The Warriors finished the season with a 47-8 record. He started in 37 games.

Roehl started his collegiate career at Columbia Basin College.
