No cash, just points for Whitefish's Warner

There was no cash at the pay window for Whitefish's Luke Warner this time, but he still left the arena a winner during the final performance of the Northwest Montana Fair PRCA Rodeo Saturday night at the Flathead County Fairgrounds.

Warner, in his first fair rodeo, covered Shootin' Stars for eight seconds and a 74-point ride in the bareback for the third best score of the night.

"It was fun," said a pleased Warner afterwards.

"A pretty decent ride. I just didn't have enough points to get any money."

Cashing the first-place check in that event was Bobby Mote of Culver, Ore. He posted a 90 on Alley Trail on Friday night, which earned him $1,692.90.

Troy Solomon of Havre had the top ride during the final performance, scoring 82 points on Street Dance. Andy Bolich of Belgrade posted a 75 on Just 4 U.

"It felt pretty good," said Warner of his effort.

"I just started riding again last year with the NRA. I got my (PRCA) permit this year."

Warner, 27, has been competing for a total of nine years, but a work accident sidelined him for an extended period.

It proved to be a rough night for two other local cowboys. Brett Crump of Lone Pine was bucked off in the bull riding while Jordan Harmon of Twin Bridges, formerly of Kalispell, suffered the same fate in the saddle bronc riding.

Only three performances on the final night led to first-place finishes overall.

Jim Garrison of Glen dropped his steer in 3.3 seconds to blow the field away while Bryan Mikkelson of Buffalo edged Tim Garrison of Divide, by eight tenths of a second, to win tie-down roping in 11-seconds flat.

And Kevin Keller of Harlem collected 85 points on Painted Smile to tie Jake Hayworth of St. Anthony Idaho, for top honors in the saddle bronc.

Hayworth competed on Friday.

The final night drew a full house with more than 7,000 rodeo fans in attendance.
