Smith's goals power Cougars

MISSOULA - Zach Smith kicked off the Montana Christian Athletic Association soccer season with a hat trick in leading Stillwater Christian School to a 6-1 victory Saturday afternoon over Valley Christian.

Smith's goals came at 15 minutes, 39 and 67.

Also scoring for the Cougars were Wes Halliburton, Ryan Thompson and Nathan Bush.

"Fantastic opening game," said SCS coach Tim Anderson.

"Solid play from seniors Zach Smith, Matt Makowski and Brandon Lodien."

Anderson said the Cougars opened it up in the first half, leading 3-1.

"(We) dominated possession and finished well in the second half," Anderson said.

"(Max) Konopatzke made several timely saves and freshman Ryan Thompson and Wes Halliburton finished with good composure."

SCS, 1-0, plays Bonners Ferry, Idaho, on Tuesday, 2 p.m.
