Richard 'Dick' Otto Jenkins, 88

Richard "Dick" Otto Jenkins, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, at the Lakeview Care Center in Bigfork, due to natural causes with family by his side. He was born on June 12, 1918, in Great Falls, to Jess and Edna Jenkins.

A graduate from Simms High School, Richard then went on to Montana State University in Bozeman.

In 1941 he married Mary Ansen and together they homesteaded on the Fairfield Bench. He farmed there until 1963 when he moved his family to a farm in the Echo Lake area. He took a job at the Farmers Union Exchange, now Cenex, and worked there until his retirement.

Richard was a great husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and his animals out on the farm. He was an avid fisherman and a champion at throwing a horseshoe and a bowling ball.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother, Leslie. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Jenkins, of Bigfork; one son, Ted Jenkins and wife, Cindy, of Bigfork; four daughters, Beth Trent and husband Tim of Bozeman, Bonny Hanson and husband Lonny of Eagle, Idaho, Jessie Wade and husband Jeff of Bigfork, and Beverly Robinson and husband Ryan of Polson; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, a niece and two nephews.

Funeral services for Richard "Dick" Otto Jenkins will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec.4, at the Johnson Mortuary Chapel with burial to follow at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. until time of service at Johnson Mortuary.

The family requests memorial contributions to be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to the local charity of your choice.
