Frederick R. Buck Jr., 79

Frederick R. "Fred" Buck Jr., 79, passed away Saturday Dec. 2, 2006, at his home in Kalispell of natural causes. Frederick was born Jan. 17, 1927, in Mulvane, Kan., to Frederick R. and Margurete Walton Buck Sr. He graduated from high school in Attica, Kan.

Fred joined the Navy during World War II, and was discharged in 1946. He later joined the U.S. Army, where he served for nearly 23 years, retiring as a master sergeant in 1968. He served in the Korean War, and had tours of duty in Germany, France, and various Army posts in the U.S.

After retiring from the Army, Fred worked for 20 years at the Kalispell Post Office, retiring in 1988.

He served one term as a member of the Kalispell City Council. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Moose Lodge, American Legion and the V.F.W.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and one sister.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Norma L. Buck, of Kalispell; two children, Doreen "Dody" Green and her husband, Raymond, of Billings, and Mark Buck and his wife, Jennifer, of Great Falls;, three grandchildren, Kenton Green of Missoula, and Lindsey and Collin Buck, both of Great Falls.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today, Dec. 5, at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home, with the Rev. Drew Buckner officiating. Cremation will be after the service.

The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials in Frederick's name be sent to Care Team Ministries c/o Immanuel Lutheran Home, 185 Crestline Ave., Kalispell, MT 59901.

A reception will be after the funeral at the Eagles Lodge in Kalispell.
