Bad break for Braves
Holt shatters arm in championship loss to Havre

BUTTE - A fantastic weekend with a horrible ending.
The Flathead Braves were wrestling great, possibly rolling along toward their first championship at the Mining City Duals.
Flathead defeated Sidney 69-12 and host Butte 58-20 in Rounds 9 and 11, then defeated CMR 54-10 to advance to the championship against Havre, the top-ranked team in Class A.
"We were wrestling pretty well until our 215-pounder Levi Holt shattered his arm," said Flathead head coach Jeff Thompson.
"It was a throw situation. Those two (Holt and Havre's Evan Hinebauch) were going after it … just shattered it.
"That just kind of took the wind out of our sails. He's a team leader and an amazing young man," a dejected Thompson said.
Flathead wound up losing 44-26 to the Blue Ponies.
"Overall, we wrestled a great weekend. But it's pretty challenging right now for our team to recover from that," Thompson said.
Holt will have surgery today, the coach said.
There were some highlights for the Braves.
Shaun Lau, at 98 pounds, is undefeated so far on the year. He got one forfeit Saturday, claimed a 2-0 decision from Butte High's Justin Rowling, pinned Mike Budeski of CMR, then pinned Havre's Layne Ward in 28 seconds in the championship.
"He's had a lot of tough matches," Thompson said.
At 112 pounds, Tanner Beaman "had an unbelievable day today. He's really coming on," Thompson said.
Beaman pinned Levi Johnson of Sidney and won a 10-7 decision over Butte's Tyler McLaughlin. He pinned both CMR's Kelly Olds and Havre's Ryan Shelstad to finish up his weekend.
Ricky Janes, at 125, defeated the Class AA 112-pound defending state champion (CMR's Nash Hallfrisch), 4-1, in an "awesome, exciting match," Thompson said.
The coach also complimented T.C. Decker on an undefeated weekend and Ryan Thiel on his efforts at 135.
"We had an awesome weekend in the middle weights," Thompson said.
"We're happy with where we're at right now. We've had a little adversity, but we'll learn from that," he added.
Flathead finished second in the event for the second straight year. The Braves were also second in 2003.
