Streit helps FHS boys place second

Hammett wins 100 backstroke for Bravettes

HAVRE - Taylor Streit won the 100 backstroke and swam on one of two winning relay teams for Flathead, which finished second in the team standings at the Havre Invitational swim meet on Saturday.

Streit's winning time in the backstroke was 1:07.93. His margin of victory was nearly four seconds.

C.M. Russell broke the century barrier in scoring with a team total of 110 points. Flathead was next with 82.

Streit also swam on the Braves' first-place 200 freestyle relay team. Logan Hunter, Bryce Fischer and Andrew Unterreiner were the other relay members.

The foursome posted a winning time of 1:40.02.

Flathead's other first was turned in by the 200 medley relay team - Hunter, Seth Baumgarner, Unterreiner and Fischer. They were timed in 1:50.02.

Hunter had Flathead's other top finish, a second in the 100 breaststroke.

"Outstanding swims on the boys side," said Flathead coach Paul Stelter.

"Very good times for early season. Great individual efforts."

The boys were missing two swimmers and the girls four due to illness or school testing.

In addition to Streit, Hunter, Bumgarner and Fischer, Stelter said Kyle Brady had a strong effort in the 200 freestyle, placing fifth.

Havre, 122 points, edged CMR for the girls title by six points. Flathead was third, 79.

The Bravettes had one individual winner - Sammie Hammett in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:09.47 - and also took first place in the 200 freestyle relay, 1:52.36. On the relay were Kelsey Iblings, Ann McLean, Allison Grubb and Hammett.

The Bravettes had three individual runners-up with Grubb, 50 freestyle; Iblings, 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke; and Hammett, 100 freestyle.

Stelter said Linzi Reiergard, 12th in the 50 and 15th in the 100 freestyle; Alyscia Marsh, fifth in the 100 butterfly; Sami Gross, 26th in the 100 free; and Lamb Lingelser, 12th in the 50 freestyle, turned in strong efforts.

Flathead's final meet before the holiday break is Saturday in Great Falls. The invitational begins at noon.

The swim season resumes Jan. 6 with a home meet versus the three Missoula schools.
