POLSON - Jessica Buckless scored 12 points and helped out defensively with five steals as Polson collected its first girls basketball victory of the season Thursday, beating rival Ronan 52-33.

Polson (1-4, 1-1) bolted to a 14-8 advantage and never looked back.

"We just got a better start tonight," said Polson coach Bruce Thomas.

"Our last two games, we were cold out of the gate. Tonight, we came out with the lead and that was the difference."

Lisa Mathias led Polson in steals with six. The Pirates finished with 27.

Eureka 28, Libby 24

EUREKA - Amy Roberts posted a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds as Eureka clipped Lincoln County rival Libby in Thursday's Northwestern A girls basketball action.

Libby trailed by two points with 14 seconds remaining, but Libby turned the ball over and Eureka held on.

Briann Linnell scored with four seconds left to ice the victory for the Lions. She rebounded a missed free throw and went right back up for the easy basket.

Linnell finished with seven points.

"She was sick this week, didn't practice Monday or Tuesday," said Eureka coach John Hammond.

"She played very well for being under the weather."

Linnell also finished with eight rebounds.

Laice Dedrick tallied 12 points for Libby.
