Family and pets survive fire

Even the pet birds and cats were saved when Kalispell Fire Department went to a house fire on Fifth Avenue West Thursday night. The fire started in a closet of the home. Four people evacuated before the fire department arrived. Firefighters quickly put out the fire, which had spread to the ceiling and walls. A large cage containing birds was moved to a neighbor's house and two cats were reunited with their owners later. Damage was estimated at $15,000 for the house; estimates for the loss in personal items are pending. Whitefish Fire Department provided an ambulance to cover Kalispell's calls during the fire. Faulty electrical wiring is the suspected cause of the fire.

Kalispell Police were called about a vehicle with no headlights on that was being driven erratically and speeding on Buffalo Hill at 2:30 a.m. The driver was stopped and arrested for DUI.

Someone ordered pizzas as a prank, but police have the phone number of the person who placed the orders.

The guests in a room at Motel 6 had been given a deadline of 5 p.m. Thursday to pay their bill or leave. The occupants refused to answer the door. Police gave them another 15 minutes to gather up their belongings and get out.

A motel was the destination of a man who caused a disturbance with a woman on College Avenue.

A boy was arrested for possessing drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop before midnight Thursday.

A man and woman in a blue car yelled at people on the streets near East Idaho Street.
