Evelyn Anita Hoffman, 87, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, "arrived in Heaven" on Dec. 14, 2006, from her daughter Aileen DeRoses' home in Phoenix. Her husband of 60 years, John Louis Hoffman, who went on before her in 2005, "undoubtedly was there to greet her at the gates!"

Evelyn was born Oct. 29, 1919, and raised in San Diego. She graduated from San Diego High and the San Diego College of Business, where she obtained her business degree. Evelyn also attended beauty college.

She went on to work for Convair, General Dynamics and was a woman ahead of her time as she joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. During World War II, she was assigned to towing military airplanes and there met the love of her life, her future husband, John.

After marriage, they settled in Chula Vista, Calif., where they raised three daughters. Evelyn, a member of Eastern Star, went on to open her own business, Broadway Beauty Salon, in 1959.

After retirement, Evelyn and John evenly split their time between Yuma, Ariz., and Kalispell.

She is survived by two daughters, Aileen DeRose of Phoenix, and Phyllis Barman of Lakeside, Calif.; and grandchildren, Robert Barman III, Charlene Theakston, Randi Roush Gomez and John Roush.

There will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Evelyn's name to Hospice of the Valley, 3238 N. 16th St., Phoenix. AZ 85016.
