Eureka loses 8-B opener

RONAN - Plains outscored Eureka 22-14 in the final frame Wednesday afternoon to collect a 61-54 opening-round basketball victory in the boys District 8-B tournament.

Plains (12-7) moves on to face St. Ignatius (15-3) today, 2:30 p.m., in semifinal action. Eureka (10-9) returns to action Friday in loser-out play.

It marked the second victory for Plains over Eureka in less than a week. Plains beat Eureka on Saturday, 52-50.

Eureka led 14-11 after the first period and 40-39 heading into the fourth quarter.

Isiah Linnell paced the Lions offensively with 18 points. Kenny Carpenter scored 21 for Plains.

The 8-B tournament winds up Saturday. The top four teams advance to the Western B Divisional.
