Play reveals wisdom of youth
The Flathead High School Theatre Department will explore the lessons of childhood in the Acting 2 class production of Robert Fulghum's "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten."
The show, consisting of 22 touching and thoughtful stories all about the journey of life, will be presented Monday and Tuesday in the David M. Hashley Theatre at 7 p.m.
The play explores the assertion in Fulghum's book that many of the important lessons of life are learned in childhood. Share everything. Play fair. Don't hit people. Put things back where you found them. Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody. Wash your hands before you eat. Flush. Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you. Live a balanced life. Learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day.
"We all know how to find joy, happiness and wisdom," said director Greg Adkins. "We just need to remember the lessons life has taught us."
The stories within the play include everything from a dancing pig to a crazy Mother of the bride. Songs, chants and live music are interjected throughout the production.
Fulghum's writing has the class eager to present the play. The 27-member class has also been working together to help build the stage, set the lights, make the costumes and make the play come together.
Acting 2 "Process and Performance" is one of 11 courses offered through the Theatre Department at Flathead High School and gives students an opportunity to further develop their character-portrayal skills while continuing to develop the discipline required of an actor.
