Construction for Glacier High School is moving right along.
CTA project architect Corey Johnson said the Flathead Valley's new high-school facility is on schedule and within budget.
The west classroom wings are getting roofs this week. The electrical, plumbing and mechanical rough-in work is under way in that area.
The east classroom wings are getting a roof deck now, and framing of the interior and exterior metal walls is taking place.
Next week, plans are to start on the structure for the center commons area, with steel beams being lifted by the big blue crane. Then the crane will be used to help install the framing for the fine arts wing and PE/gymnasium wing, which should wrap up before April.
Exterior masonry walls will be complete in a few weeks when masons finish the north and west gym walls.
The goal for Swank Enterprises, project construction manager, is to have the exterior building shell and roof completed by midsummer; then workers will concentrate on the interior finishes and system installations.
An unseasonably warm January more than made up for the bitter cold December weather to help keep construction on schedule.
Johnson said about 40 construction workers are on site in a typical day.
The public can keep track of progress at the school through photos posted on the Web site, yournewschool.com.
Only construction employees and design and testing professionals are allowed on the construction site because of the safety hazards and liability concerns.
