Barkus to seek second term in state Senate

State Sen. Greg Barkus, R-Kalispell, will seek re-election to a second term in the state Senate, he said Friday.

Barkus represents Kalispell and Evergreen in District 4 and was first elected in 2002. He was appointed to the finance and claims, natural resource and fish, wildlife and parks committees in his first legislative session. During his second session he served on the finance and claims, education, and fish, wildlife and parks committees.

Barkus worked extensively in natural resources, finance and budgeting, education and tax reform, serving on various subcommittees in addition to his regular committee work and taking on interim assignments.

A native Montanan, Barkus has been employed at the investment firm of D.A. Davidson & Co. for 25 years and is currently senior vice president. He was previously employed with Bank of Montana System in Missoula, Butte and Conrad, where he was president of the Pondera Bank of Montana.
