John Henry 'Ted' Burcham, 99

John Henry "Ted" Burcham, 99, passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at Heritage Place in Kalispell.

He was born July 23, 1906, at Knox, N.D., the son of Marion Robert and Margaret (Bradford) Burcham. Ted received his education in North Dakota. He worked on farms in North Dakota and Montana in his younger years.

Ted joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934, was encamped in Southern California, Olney and Montana. He later worked in the woods as a sawyer and catskinner for 35 years. Then he went to work for Glacier Concrete for 10 years. It was located on Fifth Avenue East across from where he lived.

He enjoyed gardening, and cutting and selling firewood. In later years he repaired and sold lawnmowers. Ted enjoyed a good deer hunt. He also enjoyed dancing and bowling and traveled in his pickup camper.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Anna E. Swenson Burcham; two daughters, Carolyn E. Burcham, and Shirley J. Bowers; one sister, Ethel Egbert Garner; and four brothers, Maynard, Jim, Casey and Sherman Burcham.

Ted is survived by his partner of many years, Ruth Burcham, of Kalispell; three sons, Kenneth L. Burcham of Great Falls, Gene S. Burcham of Sea Tac, Wash., and Marvin F Burcham of Kalispell; one daughter, Earlene M. Burcham, of Estacada, Ore.; sisters, Elsie Watson of Arlington, Wash., and Charolette Baumgart of Minot, N.D.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at Johnson Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at Johnson Mortuary. Burial will be afterward at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.
