Eunice E. Johnson, 84, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at her residence in the Lake Blaine area near Kalispell.

She was born on March 26, 1921, at Strathcona, Minn., the daughter of Ingvold and Henrietta (Laurensen) Sands. Eunice received her education in Minnesota. In 1936, at the age of 15, she moved to the Flathead Valley in Montana with her family.

In 1942, she moved to Chicago and worked for Douglas Aircraft as a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II. She moved back to the Flathead in 1952. After moving here, she went to work for the aluminum plant in Columbia Falls and kept busy raising her family, ending her job with the aluminum plant in the late '50s. She held other various jobs in the valley until her retirement.

Eunice met Clyde Johnson and was later married to him on Aug. 13, 1995. Eunice attended the Assembly of God Church until her health prevented her from attending.

Eunice enjoyed some gardening, cooking and baking, especially pies, and she liked to embroider. She loved to take Sunday drives around Flathead Lake or through Glacier Park; she especially loved camping at the Wayfarers in Bigfork. It was the music from the '30s and '40s that captured her musical attention.

Eunice was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Sid Michaels; and six siblings.

She is survived by her husband, Clyde Johnson of Kalispell; three daughters, Sandi Daniel of Denver, and Sharon Juelfs and Sonja Nestegard, both of Kalispell; four grandchildren, Allison Hawes of Kalispell, Heather Shipley of Albuquerque, N.M., Matthew Juelfs of Kalispell, and Joseph Gone of Ann Arbor, Mich., and their spouses; three sisters, Gladys Milam and Beatrice Gordon of Kalispell, and Clarice Hewitt of California; brother, Earl Sands of Whitefish; and one honorary granddaughter, Rebecca Bouden, of Kalispell.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at Johnson Mortuary Chapel with Pastor John Weaver officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.

Johnson Mortuary and Crematory is caring for Eunice's family.
