Thiel, Stahlberg lead FHS swimmers

HELENA - Flathead won two relays - 200 medley and 200 freestyle - Jenna Thiel posted the top time in the 50 freestyle and Jacey Stahlberg took a first in the 100 freestyle to help the Bravettes finish second in the girls competition of Bohn Moerer Invitational swim meet on Saturday.

Thiel and Stahlberg also swam on both winning relays.

On the medley relay with Thiel and Stahlberg were Jessa Thiel and Liz Myers and on the freestyle relay were Myers and Sammie Hammet.

The Bravettes finished with a team score of 210. Bozeman, led by double winners Hannah Halstrom and Hannah Chura, won the title with a 260 total.

The Flathead boys, 116 points, finished fifth in the team standings.

The Bozeman boys finished on top with a 273 score.

Brian Brady had the best showing for the Braves, taking second in the 50 freestyle. FHS was third in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.

"This was the last meet to qualify for state," said FHS coach Paul Stelter.

"Everyone was kinda energized by it. They did a magnificent job supporting all the swimmers. It was fun to watch."

Stelter said Kelsie Norwood, in the 100 freestyle, improved her time by 15 seconds. He said Tara Klein, 200 freestyle, Logan Bussey, 100 freestyle, Kellin Clark, 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley, and Aska Hokazono, 100 free, all turned in very impressive swims.

Flathead will conclude its season Feb. 10-11 at the State Swim Meet in Hardin.
