The public is invited to a tile-making workshop for the Community Spirit Monument Project from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at sculptor Kay Lynn's studio, 258 Riverside Drive, in Kalispell.

Canyon View school picnic is today
Alumni, families, friends and teachers are invited to the annual Canyon View Grade School picnic today at the air-conditioned Bohemian Grange Hall, Blanchard Lake Road off U. S. 93 near Whitefish.
Set-up starts at 10 a.m., with a picnic from noon to 5 p.m. Bring your own silverware, plates and potluck dishes. Coffee and tea will be furnished.
Youths ages 14 and younger can get a jump on the day by joining the annual Skibsrud Scramble Duathlon at Lawrence Park in Kalispell. Check-in registration is at 8 a.m. There will be three age categories and awards given. T-shirts will also be given to all participants. A light lunch follows the event.
Sunburst group hosts music-crafts festival today
The Sunburst Foundation has its third annual combined woodcarving and musical festival today at the Historical Village and Riverside Park in Eureka.
The day-long event includes a chain saw carving competition, silent and live auctions of wood arts and crafts, live music, arts and crafts vendors, demonstrations, a chain saw raffle and family-oriented activities. Entertainment will be provided by local musicians.
The event is free and the public is welcome. The carving competition begins at 8 a.m., with the live auction starting at noon and the music at 1 p.m.
Arts-crafts fair set for this weekend
The 25th annual Summer Arts and Crafts Fair continues today and Sunday on the courthouse lawn on Main Street in Kalispell. More than 100 artists booths, live music and concessions will be highlighted. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
Celebrate the Swan with races today
The fourth annual Celebrate the Swan 10K, 5K and one mile Race for a Place starts at 10 a.m. today at the south end of the Condon airstrip at mile marker 43 on Montana 83.
There will be children's games after the race. Proceeds go toward the purchase of Plum Creek Timber lands. Call 406-754-3137 for details.
Circus performs today at fairgrounds
The circus is coming to town for two shows today at the Flathead County Fairgrounds in Kalispell. The Flathead Shrine Club presents performances at 2 and 7 p.m. of Las Vegas' three-ring Jordon circus.
Advance tickets are $9 for adults and $4 for children, and can be purchased until noon today at most area grocery stores, as well as International Design, NAPA and the fairgrounds office in Kalispell, Sliter's Ace in Lakeside, and Mike's Conoco in Whitefish.
Tickets will be sold at the gate for $10 and $5, respectively. Tickets for seniors ages 65 and older will be $5.
Proceeds go toward the support of Shriner charities, particularly the transportation of children to Shriners Hospital for free medical care.
