Shrine Bowl: Hicks named West squad's MVP

Northwest Montana was well represented at the 60th annual Shrine Bowl football game Saturday night in Great Falls as nine players were on the West Roster.

The East, however, rallied for a 41-35 victory at Memorial Stadium.

Chris Hicks of Whitefish, who had five receptions for 151 yards and two touchdowns in the game, was named the West squad's offensive MVP.

His 78-yard TD reception from Helena High quarterback Matt Komac with 8:39 left in the opening period put the West on top 7-0.

He hauled in a 31-yard TD pass from Komac in the third period.

Defensive tackle Travis Hjort of Libby was named the most inspirational player for the West team.

Polson's Colton Woods was 3-of-4 on PATs and he kicked two field goals - 24 and 33 yards.

Also participating were: (Polson) Andy Nelson and Aaron Jones; (Kalispell) Beau Watkins, Stetson Spooner and Damian Farrier; and (Whitefish) Mike McCracken.

The East leads the series 34-26.
