James F. Donovan, 92
James F. Donovan, 92, "was promoted to glory" on July 14, 2006, at Brendan House in Kalispell.
He was born on Dec. 10, 1913, in Kalispell, to James and Nora (Johnson) Donovan. He was the third in a family of five. Jim graduated from Flathead County High School with the class of 1933.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy as a gunner's mate from 1935 until the war ended. He was discharged as a chief petty officer.
It was in 1944, in Kalispell, that he and Jackie Logan were married, celebrating 62 years together this year.
He spent most of his life in the logging industry as a log scaler and mill foreman, and in construction, which included Hungry Horse and Libby dams.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman, hunting deer and elk as well as catching all kinds of fish and making all his own lures.
He was a Baptist by faith.
James was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Ed and Art Donovan.
He is survived his wife, Jackie; son, Richard, and wife, Vicki; sister, Helen Rowlan; brother, Clayton Donovan; five grandchildren, Michael, Tim, Kelly, Lisa and Ryan; three stepgrandchildren, Nathan, Adam and Billy; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and friends of all who knew him.
Funeral services for James Donovan will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, July 19, at Johnson Mortuary Chapel with burial to follow at Glacier Memorial Gardens in Kalispell.
