It looked much worse than it was Tuesday

when someone reported to the Flathead County Sheriff's Office that a man in a chef's coat with a butcher knife was chasing a woman on U.S. 2 near Jagz restaurant. The hat and knife were just tools of his trade as a cook and he was engaged in a dispute with a woman with whom he lives. The woman said she was not threatened by the man, though he ran at her car, screamed and punched it.

Both sides of a neighbor dispute about an easement on Blanchard Lake Road called to weigh in with their side of the story. Ditto on Middle Road, where the dispute is between a landlord and tenant.

Marion firefighters were kept busy, beginning with a garage fire on Bitterroot Lane at 5 a.m. Wednesday. A report of a smoldering camp fire on Gopher Lane came next, followed by a report of a houseboat fire at Crystal Lake. Fisher River emergency workers wound up handling the latter call.

Someone left a vehicle on U.S. 2 on Sunday. It was tagged by police. Then it was repossessed. Strike three.

Someone who hasn't heard from a couple of friends in 3 1/2 years decided it was time to check in and see whether they are OK. A deputy helped the caller track down one of the friends, who is fine.

A good guard cat awoke a resident at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday on West Reserve Drive. The resident turned on a light and then heard someone running away and found a screen had been taken off the hinges.

Three men at Grizzly Jack's bar near Bigfork put down their fists and left after a fight was reported there at 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Windows were damaged in five vehicles at Mini Golden Inn.

A man in black shorts, a black shirt and a black coat caused a disturbance at Lucky Lil's. Another disturbance happened on Jensen Road.
