Local dancers pull out all the stops for annual extravaganza

The Academy of the Performing Arts will present its annual spring dance extravaganza on June 9-10 at 7 p.m. in the Flathead High School auditorium.

This year's show is entitled "Faith, Hope, Reflection, and Inspiration."

Drawing on the academy's family of over 300 dancers, choreography and dance disciplines will include ballet, lyrical, tap, jazz and hip-hop featuring performers ranging in age and ability from3 to adult.

As a special addition, there will be three numbers featuring the Academy of the Performing Arts Company. These dancers have trained intensively all year and participated very successfully in advanced workshops and competitions, earning trophies and scholarships.

This year's theme takes on a deeper meaning for the students and instructors.

"We wanted to teach and to perform, through dance, the positive ways to deal with obstacles and events that affect us all at some point in our lives, as well as to inspire to be strong and overcome challenges that life sometimes hands to you," Shoni Jaeger, director of the academy, said. "Inspiration can be found in the talent of Erika Hines and Carrie Wilson, two new choreographers and instructors joining the Academy of the Performing Arts team whom both have their hands firmly on the pulse of today's latest dance styles and moves."

Professional lighting and sound are hallmarks of academy performances.

Each performance features reserved seating and tickets are available at the Academy of the Performing Arts at 11 Meadowlark Dr. in Evergreen, 755-0139, or on the day of the show at the auditorium box office.
