John Alfred Roog, 84

John Alfred Roog, a resident of Stuart, Fla., was born June 17, 1921 in Shelton, Conn., the son of Peter and Aniela (Garbien) Roog. He graduated from Shelton High School in 1939 and attended Montana State University.

On June 2, 1945, he married Thelma P. Herd of Kevin and raised three children in Shelton.

He retired from the Sherwin Williams Paint Co. as credit manager.

They moved to Kalispell in 1976, where he worked and retired from the Columbia Paint Co., and was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church and the American Legion. The last 10 years of his life were spent in Stuart, Fla., where he enjoyed the heat and the hurricanes. He had a love of golf that he shared with many throughout his entire life.

John was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving as a navigator with the U.S. Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force where he attained the rank of captain.

He is survived by his son, Michael, and Dawn of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Lt. Col. (retired) Paula and Charles Stephenson of Fruit Heights, Utah, and Suzanne 'Sam' McClung of Crest, Calif.; two grandchildren, Stacey and Anil Asnani and Christopher Roog; two brothers, Fred Roog, and Walter and Lucille Roog of Shelton; a sister, Cecilia Rafalowski, of Ansonia, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma Herd Roog; a sister, Pauline Roog; and a brother, Peter Roog.

John A. Roog passed away March 9, 2006, at his home in Stuart at the age of 84.

A graveside service/burial will be held at noon Saturday, June 17, at the Glacier Memorial Gardens Cemetery, U.S. 93 North, in Kalispell.
