Glacier National Park will be hosting informational "stakeholders" meetings on the status of the Going-to-the-Sun Road reconstruction project this week.

The meetings will be held Wednesday, June 21, at the West Glacier Community Building and Thursday, June 22, at the St. Mary Visitor Center.

Both meetings are scheduled from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Glacier Park is launching a long-planned rehabilitation project on the alpine portion of Sun Road in 2007, but preparations for the work are under way.

To offset inconveniences to park visitors, for example, a transit center is being built this summer at Apgar to accommodate an expanded park transit system.

Most aspects of the project will be updated by park officials at the meetings, and public comments will be accepted.

Those planning to attend are asked to notify the park by calling 888-7972.

The project is expected to take at least eight years to complete, with varying degrees of traffic restrictions between spring and fall.
