Robert Franklin 'Bob' Dyer, 88
Robert Franklin "Bob" Dyer passed away Thursday, June 22, 2006, at Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell. Bob was born Jan. 20, 1918, in Chanute, Kan., to Cora Ethel Armstrong Dyer and Charles Henry Dyer. When Bob was 6 years old, the Dyer family moved to California.
Bob met his wife, Frances "Fran," of Eldora, Iowa, in 1943 in California, and they were married May 2, 1944, in Ventura, Calif. Three children were born. Kathy "Kam" Ann Beaver (Dyer), Marty Charles Dyer (deceased-1998), and Monty Robert Dyer.
Bob's first job was with Young Spring and Wire Corp., where he worked into a supervisor position in the top rim department and had a 22-year career with the company in Maywood, Calif., returning to the company after a four-year Army career in the Asiatic and Pacific theaters during World War II.
Bob's last job was with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Office. He retired in 1982 after another 22-year career with that office, serving his last four years at the sheriff's Aero Bureau in Long Beach, Calif.
Bob became a transferred member from Bellflower United Methodist Church in California to Epworth United Methodist Church in Kalispell as a member of 20 years since 1986. Bob became a Stephen minister, an usher, a trustee, and president of the Epworth Men's Group; also a member of the administrative council; and with wife, Fran, a communion steward for four years.
He had been an active supporter of Habitat for Humanity, the food bank, the Humane Society and various other city projects. Both Robert and Frances received an inset plaque for the wall of the Samaritan House, a branch of the Long Beach Rescue Mission in Long Beach, for service and donations.
Robert will be greatly missed by his friends both here in Kalispell and California for his untiring friendliness, generosity and sensitivity. He had a great dedication to his family, church and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Marty.
Bob is survived by his wife, Fran, of 62 years; daughter, Kathy Ann "Kam" Beaver (Dyer); son, Monty Robert Dyer; and sisters, Marjorie Ferguson of Kalispell, and Virginia Catlin of Illinois; also numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
Cremation has taken place at Buffalo Hill Mortuary, and the spreading of Bob's ashes will be in Glacier Park by the family as was requested by Bob.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service may be planned later.
