William E. "Pat" O'Brien, 98, died Sunday, March 5, 2006, in Kalispell. He was born Sept. 21, 1907, in Divine, Ill. Burial of cremains is in Iowa City, Iowa. A memorial service is planned for summer.

Pat worked at Sears. He enjoyed the church men's group, financial planning, bowling and fishing. He golfed for 60 years. He would play and kibbutz with anyone who loved the game.

He and his wife, Pearle, moved to Largo, Fla., after his retirement. During Pearle's illness, he taught himself to cook, and to buy and alter her clothes. He continued to play the mandolin, golf, and, with friends, weeded the golf greens, and spent from five to six hours a day with Pearle.

In 1997, he moved to Kalispell to be near his son, Bill, and family, Bev, Tim and Matthew. He latch hooked rugs, read books, watched golf and soccer, and played cards.

He is survived by a daughter, Donna O'Brien, of Iowa; and son, Bill, of Kalispell.

He was preceded in death by his wife and two sisters, Theresa and Cecile.

The memorial service will be held at a date still to be arranged.
