Margaret June Myers, 74

Margaret June Myers, 74, of Yakima, Wash., passed away March 3, 2006, at Yakima Regional Cardiac Center.

June was born March 28, 1931, in Walla Walla, Wash., to Samuel Gerkey and Frances Fehrenbacher. She graduated from Walla Walla High School and St. Mary School of Nursing.

She began her nursing career at St. Mary's Hospital in Walla Walla as a surgical nurse. She moved to Yakima in 1970 and worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital as assistant supervisor of surgery, and at Memorial Hospital as surgery supervisor until her retirement in 1987. June was dearly loved and respected by the medical community.

Margaret June Gerkey married Merrill Maurice Myers on May 16, 1951, at Fort Lewis, Wash. June and "Tubby" were blessed with six children and seven grandchildren whom they dearly loved.

June was a woman of strength whose Catholic faith guided her life. Her family and friends were touched by her loving and gentle spirit. She was generous to others and made friends wherever she ventured. Her infectious sense of humor and joy for helping those in need depicts the wonderful person that she was. "Her quiet acceptance of life's challenges is a lesson to all that faith in God will get us through." June will be dearly missed by all.

Survivors include six children, Nancy Myers and husband, Mark Hull, of Kalispell, Maggie Marsh and husband, Steve, of Kent, Wash., Mary Myers-Hall and husband, Jim, of Yakima, Mark Myers of Troutdale, Ore., Lisa Turner and husband, Steve, of Hoodsport, Wash., and Carolyn Bell and husband, Eric, of Clackamas, Ore.; seven grandchildren, Hossein, 27, Clinton, 17, Stephen,17, Christopher, 16, Grant, 11, Garrett, 9, and her "princess" Nicole, 22 months. She also is survived by two aunts, Margaret Bergevin and Helen Mitchell; brother, Gene Gerkey; and sisters, Pat Ray and Betty Hastings.

June was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Frances Gerkey; stepmother, Lola Gerkey; sister, Carol Ferrante; brother, Bud Rose; and her loving husband, Merrill Myers.

June was a hospice volunteer, nurturing and caring for those in need. Donations in her honor can be sent directly to Memorial Homecare Services, 1019 S. 40th Ave., Yakima, WA 98908.

A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, March 10, at the Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at Holy Family Catholic Church.
