Braves fourth at state

BUTTE - Flathead settled for fourth place Saturday, losing to Butte 55-46 in the consolation final at the Class AA state boys basketball tournament.

Flathead (16-9) took a 16-10 first-quarter lead, but Butte (19-5) went on a 30-13 run over the next two periods for a 40-29 edge.

Jeremy DeHerrera hit a couple of treys in the final period to try and rally the Braves, but Butte didn't crack.

DeHerrera finished with 20 points to pace FHS. Geoff Hogan tallied 11.

The Braves advanced to the consolation final with a 58-46 morning victory over Helena Capital

Flathead held a 23-22 edge at the half and outscored Capital 35-24 in the third and fourth periods.

DeHerrera and Hogan again led the way offensively with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Beau Watkins added 10.

Brock Osweiler had 12 of Flathead's 28 rebounds.

BUTTE - One bad quarter turned out to be Flathead's downfall Saturday morning during loser-out action at the Class AA state girls basketball tournament.

The Bravettes took an early 13-7 lead on Great Falls, but were outscored 21-9 in the second quarter to trail 28-22 at the half.

Flathead (17-7) battled back in the third period, trailing by two just points, 39-37, going into the final eight minutes of play.

Great Falls (15-9) finished off the contest with a 20-point final quarter to secure a 59-50 victory.

Senior Holli Hashley, in her final game with FHS, finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Meghan O'Connell added 16 points for the Bravettes.

Gina Schermele led Great Falls with 15.
