David Shomo Miller, 80

David Shomo Miller, 80, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at HealthCenter Northwest in Kalispell after a lengthy bout with cancer.

He was born March 16, 1925, at Reading, Pa., to Clarence A. and Katharine (Shomo) Miller. David graduated from Mount Penn High School in Mount Penn, Pa.

In June 1943, he was inducted into the U.S. Armed Services and served as a military policeman throughout World War II. He participated in the Normandy invasion of France.

After his honorable discharge in 1945, he was employed as a sawmill worker and woodworker in Pennsylvania and Michigan.

He came to Montana in 1949, and he was employed as a timber faller. Later he engaged in the logging industry as a self-employed logger.

In 1968, he married Elva "Todd" Kinniburgh and lived at the family home in Marion, until moving to Kalispell in July 2005.

David loved the woods and wilderness, hiking, camping and all the primitive country had to offer. He enjoyed working in his woodworking shop and Sno-Catting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard; and a stepson, James Kinniburgh.

He is survived by his wife, Elva "Todd" Miller, of Kalispell; two stepsons, Kenneth Kinniburgh and wife, Arlette, and Robert Kinniburgh and wife, Robbi; one stepdaughter, Betty Jenkins and husband, Bob; one stepdaughter-in-law, Barbara Kinniburgh, all of Kalispell; one brother, Bill Miller of Bloomfield, Conn.; three nieces; and many stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for David Shomo Miller will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 17, at Johnson Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be afterward at Glacier Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today, March 16, at Johnson Mortuary Chapel.
