The Whitefish Police Department

took calls from a store employee and a newspaper carrier at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. They were concerned about two very young children riding their bikes in the dark near Columbia Avenue. Officers found that a girl, 8, had awakened her brother, 5. They quietly got dressed, packed clothes in a bag, put their helmets on their heads and socks on their hands for mittens, and pedaled to a convenience store to buy some candy. They were returned to their stunned parents.
