| March 24, 2006 1:00 AM

Robert "Bob" Mummey, 70, beloved husband, father, grandfather, in-law and friend of many, died suddenly in the early hours of Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at his home on Foothill Road in Kalispell, from the effects of a recently diagnosed brain cancer.

He was born Jan. 21, 1936, in Weed, Calif., to Lester and Esther (Weston) Mummey. He moved with his family to Sacramento, Calif., on Nov. 20, 1941, just two weeks before the start of World War II. Bob liked to play the piano in his youth. Bob earned his high-school diploma at Sacramento High School. He joined the Navy during the Korean War serving aboard the attack Carrier USS Oriskany CVA 34 from 1953 to 1955.

Bob married in 1955 and from that union had a daughter, Pamela Ann, and a son, Randy. The marriage ended in divorce some years later. After his honorable discharge from the service, he worked for 10 years at Aerojet General producing rocket fuel for Minuteman missiles.

Bob left Aerojet to join Foster Industries in Modesto, Calif., as night manager of the chicken processing plant and also attended night school during that time. He graduated from Modesto Junior College with an associate of science degree in microbiology.

In the 1980s, Bob left California and settled in Eureka, where he owned and operated a ranch as Grave Creek Bed and Breakfast from 1983 through 1995.

In 1991, he met and married the love of his life, Lindalee Voss Kanzler, of Columbia Falls. In 1995, they sold the Grave Creek Ranch, and Bob and Lindalee moved to Kalispell. They built their dream home along Foothill Road in the east side of the Flathead Valley.

In his early years, Bob was an avid big-game and bird hunter. He loved to fish, especially in Alaska during the king salmon runs. His special talent was to plant and nurture orchard trees and grass, and soon had a beautiful and productive orchard surrounded by well-kept grass at his Foothill property. He built a pond and raised huge trout that soon became pets.

He enjoyed helping his neighbors in any way he could and was a friend to all. Bob was known for his kind heart and generous spirit. He took great pride in his family and all their accomplishments. He will be greatly missed by the many who knew and loved him.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife, Lindalee Mummey, at the family home in Kalispell; his daughter, Pamela Miller, and husband, Bruce, of Roseville, Calif.; and his son, Randy Lawrence, and wife, Mary, of Elk Grove, Calif.; four grandchildren, Bradley Isbell, Phillip Miller, Emily and Adam Lawrence; one stepson, Jamie Kanzler, and wife, Jennifer, and their son, James Kanzler, of Park City, Utah.

The family suggests memorials be given to the Mountain View Mennonite Church, 795 Mennonite Church Road, Kalispell, MT 59901.
