Stumptown classes, art times slated for children, students and adults

Stumptown Art Studio offers new classes, workshops, exhibits, open studio times, art parties, and much more for all age groups this spring.

Classes begin on April 10. On Mondays from 4 to 5:30 p.m., sculptors ages 10 and up can join "Sculpting in the Third Dimension." This class is four weeks, beginning April 10.

"Folk Art" will be a special class on Tuesdays for ages 8-12 from April 25-May 30. Students will learn about traditional folk art, then create their own masterpieces in that style and using organic materials.

The after-school "Kids Arts & Crafts Club" for ages 6-9 meets on Wednesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. and on Thursdays at the same time for ages 10 and up. For a $3 fee, young artists will explore sculpture, printmaking, crafts, clay and more.

A 4- to 6-year-old group meets for "Art Exploration" Tuesdays from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Each four-week session will emphasize a variety of art materials and fun projects. A "Mommy and Me" morning is on Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m. for 1-3 year olds with a parent.

New this year is a home-school open art time on Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. Students will work on their own projects in the studio setting or create something new using a variety of art materials.

Open studio for adults is three times a week. Clay times are on Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. and again on Wednesday mornings from 10 a.m. until noon. Drawing and painting is on Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. A still-life, easels and lighting are provided. Artists bring their own supplies and projects to work on in the company of other artists. Also available are memberships to the artists' cooperative. For $90 for three months, members have almost unlimited access to the artists' co-op workspaces.

A glass-fusing workshop is on April 18 from 7 to 9 p.m, and will focus on creating a Picasso inspired "cubism' style piece. Glass-fusing techniques will be used in combining glass remnants and other recycled materials.

Spring hours at Stumptown Art Studio and the Ceramics Annex are Monday through Saturday, noon to 6 p.m.

The spring flyer with all of the details can be picked up at 145 Central Ave. in Whitefish or by visiting www.stumptownartstudio.org.
