Curtis E. Flint, 90
Curtis E. Flint, 90, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2006, at the Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell. He was born Oct. 31, 1915, in Moscow, Idaho, the son of Arthur John and Rose (Booher) Flint.
He graduated from Granite County High School in Phillipsburg in 1933.
Curtis worked for the Forest Service for several years and briefly attended the University of Montana.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy Haverty of Phillipsburg on Nov. 14, 1942, at Camp White in Medford, Ore.
In 1942 he joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II. After the war he returned to civilian life. He rejoined the Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star. After Korea he stayed on active duty until 1966, retiring as a colonel. Curtis served at a number of locations including Fort Sill, Okla., West Germany, and the Presidio of San Francisco.
Before retiring, Curtis attended San Francisco State University, obtaining a degree in education. He taught elementary school in San Jose, Calif., until 1976. He and Dorothy remained in San Jose until 2002, when they relocated to Kalispell.
Curtis was a devoted husband and father, and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid golfer who took pride in a once in a lifetime hole-in-one.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Rose Flint, and his brother, Al.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Flint, of Kalispell; his sons, Fred Flint and wife, Nancy, of Columbia Falls, Robert Flint and wife, Fran, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Bill Flint and wife, Carol, of San Jose; four grandchildren, Al Flint of Fort Collins, Colo., Jim Flint of Columbia Falls, and Jean and A.J. of San Jose; and a sister, Mary Kay Cooper, of Butte.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:10 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, with Father Vic Langhans as celebrant. There will be no visitation. Urn burial will be after services at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia Falls.
The family suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to the Immanuel Lutheran Home, Bratsburg Memorial Wing, 185 Crestline Ave., Kalispell, MT 59901.
