Local musician Stephen Jackman celebrates the release of his new CD Saturday night at Red's Wines & Blues in Kalispell. The party gets started at 8 p.m.

Though this is his first recorded CD, it's backed up by more than 30 years of songwriting and musicianship. "Band o'Steve," features all original music written and sung by Jackman who also plays all the instruments - from acoustic and electric guitar and mandolin to keyboards and percussion.

His signature jazzy folk style comes alive in such cuts as "Berkeley to Marin and Back Again," a sweet instrumental which Jackman describes as having a sort of "wide-open America Aaron Copland theme"; in "Dream Girl," a solo acoustic guitar piece; and in "The Cat Comes out to Play," one of his earlier songs which he's looking forward to playing Saturday night with some of his former band members.

Jackman's been a popular part of the Northwest's music scene since the 1970s when he toured extensively with his good friends, blues and folk guitarist Andre Floyd and Chuck Beagle. A native Montanan, he was also a founding member of the band, The Stone Formation, based in Great Falls.

More recently Jackman, Floyd and Beagle reunited in the '90s to become a favorite of Missoula's club scene for several years.

Well-known local musicians Floyd and bass player Ron Reeves will jump on stage with Jackman Saturday at Red's and it's likely that Chuck Beagle will be there too.

"It will just be frisky with the four of us up there together," Jackman says.

If you're planning to have dinner, reservations are recommended.

Red's Wines & Blues is located at 30 Second St. E. in downtown Kalispell, 755-WINE (9463).

Tonight at Red's, Yancey de Veer sings everything from Western classics to romantic island melodies, beginning at 8 p.m.

De Veer offers musical and comedy entertainment through his rich baritone voice and skill on the 12-string Ovation guitar, mandolin and banjo.

De Veer recently returned from a six-week tour of Australia and New Zealand. After a swing through Montana and Idaho, he'll be performing in Deadwood, S.D. throughout the summer at the Buffalo Stockade.

De Veer's CD releases include "Cowboy Paintbrush" from 2004. In the CD, he paints images of sagebrush deserts to mountain rivers through classic cowboy songs. He's also released "Western Winds," featuring "Songs from Along the Trail," "Sawdust Man," and "Ghosts of the Golden West."
