The Daily Inter Lake

Recycle your old electronics at the CollEctronics Event on May 26 and 27 at The Wave in Whitefish.

Old electronics contain hazardous waste. Recycling helps to keep lead, mercury, plastics treated with flame retardant, and many other hazardous materials out of the landfill.

The event will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days in the rear parking lot of The Wave, 1250 Baker Ave., in Whitefish.

Bring old desktop computers, monitors, keyboards and mice; printers, faxes and scanners; laptops, typewriters and small radios; cell phones, desk phones; televisions; and wiring, speakers and circuit boards.

Businesses, schools, government agencies and households with a large number of items can register by e-mailing susan028@centurytel.net by May 20. A form will be sent to fill out and a time given to come by Friday or Saturday.

Households with a few items to drop off can come by anytime during the posted hours.

For purposes of privacy, be sure that hard drives are wiped clean of all files before dropping off the computers.

If your computer is working and you have access to the Internet, you can download freeware to accomplish this.

If you don't have access to the Internet, or your computer doesn't work, remove your hard drive and destroy it.

Trained people will be on-site to help.

No liability will be assumed for information that might be left on your old computer.

A fee will be charged to cover transportation and recycling labor costs.

Price lists are available by e-mailing susan028@centurytel.net.

The event is co-sponsored by Sen. Dan Weinberg, SD-2, the Montana Department of Environmental Quality, CyberPort, and The Wave.
