Hikers and bikers still have large portions of Going-to-the-Sun Road all to themselves this weekend.

The road remains closed to vehicles at Avalanche Creek on the west side and at Jackson Glacier Overlook on the east side. Hikers and bikers can travel beyond that as far as they please.

Dave Dahlen, chief interpreter for Glacier National Park, said road crews spent most of the day Friday cleaning up rocks and debris from a blocked culvert on the lower section of Haystack Creek.

When they resume plowing next week, he said, the first thing they will have to tackle is an avalanche near Triple Arches that dropped "a pretty sizable pile of debris" onto the road.

The Apgar and St. Mary visitor centers are now open, Dahlen said, as are the Apgar and Sprague Creek campgrounds.

Several other campgrounds are open for primitive camping.
