Braves, Bravettes charge to the top

BUTTE - Three personal bests resulted in first place finishers for the Flathead High School boys track team Friday at the Western AA divisional.

Sean Clark ran a 1:57.23, 800, Damian Farrier threw the javelin 176-6 and Dan Ogden had his best put in the shot with a distance of 54-3 1/2.

The Braves scored in seven of the eight events held on the first day and finished on top in the team standings with 61 2/3 points.

"We had a good start," said FHS coach Dan Hodge.

"We're even doing a little better than expected."

The Braves went 1-2 in the shot with Farrier posting the second best distance, 52-1.

They finished 1-4 in the javelin and 800 and went 3-4-5 in the 3,200.

"When the shot put came in, the javelin came in and the 3,200, we scored a lot of points in those events," said Hodge.

"That put us in first."

The Braves scored 58 points in those four events.

"That's pretty impressive," said Hodge.

The only event FHS did not place in was the long jump.

Missoula Big Sky is sitting second with 42 1/3 points.

The Flathead girls are also on top, posting 69 points on opening day. Helena Capital is second with 48.

The Bravettes had just one first, Elizabeth Myers in the 300 hurdles (45.97), but four runners-up in Jenae Lister, 800; Elysia Andrews, 3,200; Tabitha Spencer, javelin; and the 400 relay.

The Bravettes went 1-2-5 in the hurdles with Chelsea Hart second and Ashley Younkin fifth.

Briana Ori finished third in the 800 and Shannon Ross fourth.

The Flathead boys and girls are defending meet champions. The top five individuals and relays advance to state.

The divisional winds up today with nine events taking place.
