Fast start for WHS boys, girls

POLSON - Whitefish's boys and girls track squads dominated first-day action at the Northwestern A divisional track and field meet on Friday.
After seven events, the WHS girls top the field with 64 points and the WHS boys have a 68 point total.
The Columbia Falls girls currently hold down second place, 38 points, while the Polson boys, 42 points, are second.
The divisional winds up today.
The WHS girls took first in four individual events and the 400 relay with a divisional record time (50.32).
Ashley Ferda won the 100 hurdles, Courtney Ferda had a divisional record time in the 400 (58.21), Carmel Johnston won the pole vault and Erin Greiner had the best triple jump.
Brooke Andrus of Bigfork set a divisional record in the 1,600 (5:08.82).
Brittany Gardner of Polson won the discus.
For the boys, Whitefish's Taylor Ferda was a double winner, posting top times in the 100 hurdles and 400.
Chris Hicks won the triple jump with a divisional record distance of 46-4 1/2 and teammate Cort Rogers won the pole vault.
Alan Skogen of Ronan/St. Ignatius won the discus, Bigfork took first place in the 400 relay and Logan Torgison of Polson turned in the best time to win the 1,600.
The top five individuals and relays advance to state.
